Jon Derwinski
Re-Elect
Winfield, Indiana Town Council

Winfield is my family’s home, and I am dedicated to the practical, community-focused work that supports the daily lives of the people who live here.
- Jon Derwinski

My family and I have lived in Winfield for more than two decades, and it has shaped who I am as a husband, father, neighbor, and public servant. I grew up in the south suburbs of Chicago. My dad worked for the U.S. Department of Education, and when I was young, he taught me the value of hard work, responsibility, and service to others. After earning my degree in construction management and engineering technology from Purdue University Calumet, I built a career in municipal and civil engineering; work that allowed me to support communities across Indiana and understand firsthand how local government decisions affect everyday life.

My wife, Julia and I have been married since 2007, and together we’re raising our two children here in Winfield. Our daughter attends Jerry Ross Elementary, and our son is a student at Robert A. Taft Middle School. Being involved in their activities, school events, and sports keeps me grounded and helps me stay connected to the day-to-day life of Winfield. Our home also includes two adopted cats and two adopted dogs, and our family’s commitment to animal welfare has been an important part of our life in this community.
Professionally, I hold an Indiana Land Surveyor’s license and a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, and I’ve spent more than 25 years working in engineering. That work has taken me to municipal meetings across the region, giving me a deep understanding of how towns like ours operate. Today, I manage an engineering team of over 46 people, focusing on efficiency, accountability, and a positive customer experience. Those same principles guide my work in public service.
I’ve been honored to serve Winfield in many capacities, including President of the Storm Water Board, Plan Commission and the Redevelopment Commission. I currently represent our town on the Northwestern Indiana Regional Plan Commission (NIRPC). I’ve also served as chairman of the Board of Zoning Appeals and as a member of the Winfield Community Foundation. In addition, I act as liaison to the Winfield Township Board and, supporting the development of our parks and a wide range of community activities. Across all of these roles, my priorities have remained the same: fiscal responsibility, transparency, and decisions that support the long‑term well‑being of our residents.
Outside of public service, I try to give back where I can, whether through Habitat for Humanity, supporting local food banks, or participating in roadside beautification efforts. And when I’m not working, you’ll usually find me with my family; camping, fishing, biking, walking our dogs, or simply enjoying time together.
Winfield is a special place. I’m grateful for the trust this community has placed in me, and I’m committed to continuing the practical, community‑focused work that helps our town thrive.

My Promise to You
If re-elected, I promise to continue delivering the honest, practical leadership that serves Winfield residents in meaningful, everyday ways. I will approach every decision with care, focus on workable solutions, and maintain a firm commitment to fiscal responsibility so that taxpayer dollars are managed with purpose and accountability.
I also promise to govern with transparency and sound judgment. My responsibility is to the people of Winfield, and I will continue making decisions based on long-term community benefit rather than short-term pressure or outside influence.
Most importantly, I promise to protect the character of our town. Winfield’s strength comes from being small, close-knit, and rooted in shared values. As neighboring communities grow, I will remain committed to preserving Winfield’s independence and ensuring that our future reflects the priorities of our residents.
Thank you for your support, your trust, and the opportunity to serve this community again. I respectfully ask for your vote in the Primary on or before May 5th.
